Personal Presents Ltd. was established in June 1995 by its directors
and co-owners Jennie Matthews and Phil Hertel.
The idea for the business was developed whilst Jennie was on maternity leave.
Jennie had worked previously in conjunction with the Heinz Baby Club,
so she was familiar with the popular products and their suppliers,
whilst also having a few ideas of her own for new product development.
Phil’s employment history in the media business has helped in the development & marketing of the website.
The Bounty hospital pack had been our primary method of distribution for our brochure for many years,
but in more recent times the internet has been our prime source of new business.
We now achieve in excess of 500,000 page hits in an average month – both at home and abroad – and we have
fulfilled orders from the Americas to Australia and from Sweden to South Africa.
We can no longer afford the ever-increasing costs of printing & distribution through the Bounty Pack,
so apologies to anyone who expected but did not receive our brochure in this way in the last year!
In our early days we employed fulfilment companies to handle our customer orders,
but we soon recognised that we needed to do this for ourselves if we were to deliver
the best possible service to our customers.
Consequently we moved our whole operation to Royal Berkshire in August 1998,
and more recently to the Pinewood Studios complex in south Buckinghamshire.
We publish a 24 page brochure twice a year - for Easter and Christmas - and mail
them automatically to customers (unless we are asked not to!) who have placed an
order within the most recent 30 month period. There isn’t enough room in the
brochure for all the products we sell, so you’ll finds lots of extra items by
browsing the website – you’ll also find a number of ‘Internet-Only’ offers.
Most recently we’ve added a facility for customers to add their comments
about products that they have purchased. This has proven to be very successful,
as it enables potential buyers to see what other people actually think of the products.
Our most difficult task is to show just how good the quality of our products
are – it’s so difficult to do this from the page of a website – and
the customer comments have been a big help.
